There’s A Secret Island Where Pigs Swim With Humans… And You Will Want To Go There!

Several celebrities, the likes of Nicholas Cage and Johnny Depp plus a dozen others, claim to have little paradises of their own at the Exuma Cays. However, it seems like fancy life isn’t only meant for celebrities and the rich. A couple of pigs lay claim to an island of their own at the Bahamas. Yes, pigs.

At the Big Major Cay, the pigs live a stylish life of swimming in the ocean, basking in the beautiful sun, and eating. In fact, the island was renamed Pig Island, or Pig Beach in their honor. The 20 or more pigs, unlike celebrities, relish welcoming tourists to their island. No one really knows how the pigs got to the island.

Local lore has it that some sailors left them on the island with the intention of going back to feed on them later. Seems like that did not happen. Another theory is that the pigs were survivors of a shipwreck, and they managed to swim their way to the island. Yet another tale is that the pigs are a scheme put in place to attract tourists.

The pigs continue living lavishly on the island, and attract more and more visitors there. They survive on food given to them by tourists in yachts passing by. If you feed them well, they return the favor by allowing you to swim beside them. When that routine is over, they retire to their island to bask under the palms, on the fine sand. What a life!
