The creativity and artistry of human beings is expressed in a variety of ways. Some people express it by drawing priceless portraits, others by composing beautiful songs. However, there is nothing comparable to the creativity portrayed by festivals.
Each of these festivals from around the world has a story behind it, and each takes place for a variety of reasons. Some of the reasons are noble ones, others are interesting ones (for instance celebrating a festival to vent out the inner child in a person).
1. Yi Peng Lantern Festival (Thailand)
When: Around November 25th 2015
On a specific day each and every year in Thailand, the sky is transformed into a sea of beautiful lanterns floating away into the universe as the Lantern Festival is celebrated. This religious ceremony is done with the aim of paying homage to Buddha. People celebrating it make wishes as the thousands of lanterns are released to the sky.
The interesting thing with this festival is that one cannot predict the exact date the festival is to happen. As a matter of fact, the announcement is just made a couple of weeks in advance.
There are two festivals of this kind celebrated there, the first one being for the locals, and the second one, done a week after the first one, meant for any international visitors intending to celebrate it. Lanterns, a seating mat and dinner are provided for the visitors.
